My name is Kate Lamble and I host ‘Arts Attack’ on Roundhouse Radio. Arts Attack is an hour-long weekly arts and culture programme is currently the only entirely speech based output on the station. Each week, I’m joined by a selection from my team of six experts whose specialist subjects range from literature to gaming for a round up and discussion of some of the most interesting events and issues of the cultural week. The show has also seen interviews with guests as varied as Danny Cohen (Controller of BBC Three), Terry Gilliam and Munira Mirza (Boris Johnson’s Cultural Advisor). In January 2009 we also broadcast a concert from the National Youth Orchestra live from the main space at the Roundhouse.Within the show I act as the host, introducing the show and the individual experts. I also hold brief discussion regarding the features to probe deeper into some of the issues raised and encourage listeners to share their opinions with the team. As well as this, I also write and produce my own features for the show and carry out interviews. Some of my previous features have included a look at the relevance of poetry in the 21st century and the wonders of travel literature. I am also the producer of Arts Attack, a role which involves researching features, seeking guests, proof reading scripts and editing features. I have to work closely with the small team involved with the show to ensure that each week we have a wide variety of interesting and entertaining pieces through which in depth information can be presented in an accessible manner. On Arts Attack we often try to tackle complex issues such as the discussing the BBC’s impartiality during the recent Gaza conflict. The show therefore naturally holds a serious tone however we aim to make the show as entertaining as possible, regularly using sketches, jokes and music to illustrate our points so the mood within the show can vary.I hope you enjoy listening to my entry, and feedback would be gratefully received.Kate.
